Bringing together business, banks and investors

altalt Investing in West Africa

Commercial bankers, investors, multi-lateral institutions and export-ready enterprises came together in Dakar, Senegal in July during the West Africa Trade Hub’s second annual trade finance conference, focused on boosting finance for export value chains in West Africa.

Trade Finance 2009: Untapped Markets explored financing opportunities in the Hub’s targeted industries—cashew, shea, processed food, home décor, apparel and transport— through expert presentations, panels and break-out groups. The conference aimed to help bankers (who are often unfamiliar with profit-making opportunities available through lending to export-ready companies) better understand industry value chains and the real risks involved in lending.

The event culminated in a Bank-to-Business-to-Investor (B2Bi) event, in which banks, businesses, investors and multi-lateral institutions discussed funding opportunities during more than 70 one-on-one meetings.
